CONTACT ZONE
An Exhibition by Georgi Sharov
Contact Zone is an attempt for navigation among various levels of representation of the “natural” through a collection of photographs made at the Sofia Zoo. Declining the invitation of the institutional way of looking, the project looks at the “species” without no information boards and no cages – invasive plants, city dwelling animals, landscape design elements, commercial images.
Georgi Sharov graduated in Photography from Akademie voor Beeldende Kunsten en Vormgeving, Artez, Enschede, The Netherlands in 2009. Exhibitions include: Three years/One day в рамките на Dauhaus Contemporary Art Platform, Sofia 2007; Phase 2, Enschede 2008; Water Tower Art Fest, Sofia 2011, Festival international de l’affiche et du graphisme, Chaumont, 2012, Sofia Design Week 2013, Crosstalk Video Art Festival, Budapest, Hungary, 9th International Short Film Festival, Detmold, Germany.

Contact Zone is part of Plan for Action # 1 project by The Fridge. Plan for Action consists of a series of exhibitions by different authors, who explore art as a completely free and therefore responsible act. The exhibitions do not have a common title, motto, statement or slogan, as usually required by most administratively or institutionally organized art events seeking to promote the contemporary art. The exhibitions do not have a curator. Instead they include an open platform for discussion between the author and the audience. The project aims to concentrate energy and efforts on observing the artistic scene that develops itself into an independent but coherent environment.
Supported by Gaudenz B. Ruf Award.
