DISPOSABLE

An Exhibition by Stoyan Dechev

Disposable is a series of drawings, objects and sculptures – things for everyday use, connected with the author’s life. They enlarge, they change the object’s function – from unnecessary, unimportant waste, they become artifact with aesthetic value. The series is questioning key notions of art – the beautiful and the ugly, the valuable and the unnecessary, etc. Discovering the aesthetic value of the used and useless things, Disposable presents the waste as object with specific emotional charge.

The exhibition aims to switch the poles of the contemporary situation of media hysteria, mass production and consumption, to provoke the clichés of perceptions and values. For Disposable seeks the unique identity of mass product, formed by the stories layered on it.

Stoyan Dechev was born in 1978 in Smolyan, lives and works in Sofia, Bulgaria. He graduated Sculpture at NAA Sofia in 2004, class of prof. Krum Damianov. He has a Post-graduated degree in Restoration at the European Center of Restoration Techniques, Hasselt, Belgium, 2006.
